Welcome to the web site of the Durham Academy speech and debate team. The DA team is very successful -- we were by far the top small school in the state last year -- but it is also a fun and welcoming group.  Individual team members have won major state and national competitions such as the North Carolina state championship tournament, the National Forensic League national tournament, and the Harvard University tournament.

We offer three practices per week, though most students attend one or two, depending on their schedules.  You can find us in Room 225, a/k/a Mr. Biersach's room, one evening and two afternoons each week. (The specific days for 2009-10 have yet to be determined, but will be posted here in August.) When they're ready, team members compete in speech and debate tournaments throughout North Carolina, testing their skills against debaters from other schools.  Varsity-level competitors have the opportunity to travel to national competitions, usually on university campuses.

If you're not already a member of the team, and think you might like to join, stop by one of our practices. There are no try-outs, and we're always glad to have new team members.  (Note that the 2008-09 season ended in late April, so we won't be practicing regularly again until fall.)
